We were the first Optometry practice in Hastings back in 1906, being quick to restore services following complete destruction in both the 1931 Hawkes Bay earthquake and some years later after a major fire. We are one of the last practices to maintain an in-house spectacle-making workshop, which means we can still do all the difficult repairs and fast spectacle making within 2 hrs. We were the first practice to serve the people of Waipawa and Waipukurau with a local optometrist back in 1935, and that has been a full time service for 30yrs now. We offer CAA and CASA approved Eye examinations for Pilots of all classes and Air Traffic Controllers. We were the first to provide weekend services, and are the largest practice in the region with 4 full time optometrists providing service for ACC Primary Eyecare. If you have a sore eye and need eye examination in a hurry, we are always ready for you. Two of our optometrists are therapeutically qualified to prescribe a wider range of medications for eye infections and diseases.
We were the first to have integrated computer-based patient records which give the best access to your eye care history, first to have Automated Perimetry, first to have Digital Retinal Photography, first to have a dedicated Behavioural Optometry practice and the first to win business awards for our level of professionalism in eye care. We were the first optometry practice in Hawkes Bay to use Optical Coherence Tomography of the optic nerve to assess and monitor Glaucoma and Macula Degeneration. We are the first practice to offer Irlen, Cellfield, Interactive Metronome and RightEye therapies for neuro-developmental learning problems. We are the only practice to offer Orthokeratology, the only practice to offer Irlen Diagnostic Services and Cellfield Therapy for Reading Disabilities. The only practice fitting scleral contact lenses for Keratoconus and Dry eye treatments. We have the Latest technology of Dry eye Treatment with Intense Pulsed Light. Special in-house Demodex treatments. We are founding members of Dry eye Specialist Group.
We have always imported the highest quality spectacle frames and sunglasses, using Zeiss frames, Zeiss lenses and selling Zeiss binoculars from the 1920's. In the past we have used Essilor Lenses. Now we utilise the very best of HOYA lenses. HOYA is a High Quality Japanese Lens technology and design company, who have the world leading anti-reflection, anti-scratch coating to stop reflections and glare. HOYA also lead the world with its specialty Myopia Control Lens called the Miyosmart Lenses. But as the needs of the patients vary we can access spectacle lenses from any of the worlds suppliers of spectacle lenses.
